Safety note: This educational guide is not an operating procedure or certification. Always use the equipment manufacturer’s instructions, applicable standards and competent technical advice.

Before operating

Check manufacturer-specified lubricant level, equipment condition, pressure limits, safety devices, guards, ventilation and compressor intake surroundings. Inspect hoses and connections for wear or damage. Do not operate a unit with an unexplained fault.

Monitor running conditions

Record operating pressure, temperature, noise, vibration, filling demand and warnings. Watch for moisture management problems and abnormal running behaviour. Use the manufacturer’s checklist rather than substituting a generic pressure or temperature limit.

Service filters by the applicable schedule

Purification cartridges and filters have model-specific capacities and replacement rules influenced by temperature, humidity, compressor hours and other conditions. Do not extend intervals without manufacturer support and validated operating evidence.

Lubricant and compressor servicing

Use lubricant approved for the exact model and service. Follow the prescribed service schedule for inlet filtration, belts where fitted, separators, valves, seals and cooling components. Retain service records and parts traceability.

Verify breathing-air quality

Undertake air sampling and testing as required by the relevant specification and site risk assessment. A healthy-running compressor does not demonstrate safe breathing-air output without quality verification.

Keep a maintenance log

Capture serial number, operating hours, date, work completed, replaced components, test results, technician details and next service due. A clear log supports audits, warranty evaluation and reduced unplanned downtime.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use standard compressor oil?

Use only lubricant approved by the equipment manufacturer for the specific compressor and intended duty.

Do filter cartridges last a fixed number of months?

No. Service intervals depend on design, usage and operating conditions; follow manufacturer instructions.

Should the compressor be used after an air-quality failure?

The cause should be investigated and corrected and suitability re-established before the unit returns to respiratory service.
