SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus)
Compressed-air cylinders for firefighters and some emergency response settings. Refilling requires rated equipment, appropriate procedures and verified breathing air.
SCUBA
Diver-carried compressed air cylinders, commonly filled by purpose-designed high-pressure compressors and filtration systems.
Hookah / surface-supplied diving
Continuous breathing gas delivered through a hose to a diver. Engineering and safety arrangements differ fundamentally from cylinder charging.
EN 12021
A standard specifying quality criteria for compressed gases used for breathing apparatus. Actual conformity requires appropriate sampling and testing.
ISO 8573-1
An industrial compressed air purity classification that alone does not establish suitability for human breathing.
